Sigiriya – A trip to the past

This excursion is one of the cultural highlights in the north of the island. The magic hills of Sigiriya and Dambulla hide a cave temple full of buddha sculptures. While ascending the lion rock you will see the famous wall paintings. Those are drawings of former princesses, called the cloud maidens. After the exhausting climb you are rewarded with a breathtaking view of the valley.


Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was founded in 1975 on a former coconut plantation adjacent to the Maha Oya river. It is located between Colombo and Kandy. There are only a few institutions for elephants like this one in the world. Orphaned and injured elephants of the region can get help there. Currently over 70 elephants live there. They spent their time in a huge outdoor enclosure, that can be freely accessed by visitors. The highlight is the daily bathing ritual at the nearby river. It is pure joy watching the elephants bath themselves in this picturesque environment.


Kandy – cultural heritage

Kandy is the city of kings and the cultural and religious center of the country. The Temple of the Tooth will carry you away with unforgettable impressions. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau and offers a chilly relief from the heat of the beaches. Stroll through the colorful markets full of exotic odors and watch the hustle and bustle happening around you. Local snacks at the many food stands and exotic fruits will keep your taste-buds happy.


Royal Botanical Garden, Kandy

A must see for every fan of exotic flowers and plants is the botanical garden near Kandy. Founded in 1861 it is Sri Lankas biggest and one of the worlds most beautiful botanical garden. Tropical plants, flowers, spices, an orchid house, lots of outdoor growing orchids and 30 m high fan palm trees can all be found in this garden. Another highlight are the bats and flying foxes that can be sighted during a walk through the garden.


Yala National Park

The 1500 square kilometres large Yala National Park is the oldest and most famous nature reserve on Sri Lanka. Its diverse ecological system consists of moist and dry monsoon forests. There are several temple ruins located in the park. You have the unique chance to see groups of elephants, leopards and many other animals. A jeep tour will transform the trip into a small adventure.


Tea Plantation

Visiting a tea plantation is interesting not just for tea enthusiasts. Expert guides will explain to you exactly how the freshly picked leaves of the tea shrub are processed. The air in this factories is full of fresh tea scent. Of course all the teas produced there can be tasted in the special tasting room. It is served with homemade cake. Enjoy these while you marvel at the beautiful mountainous landscape.
